Unfinished Lyrics - A Glimpse Into My 2020

Afternoon from my cozy NYC bed. I have class in a little while, but I really wanted to share this post with y'all. Obviously, I am writer, and love to express myself through words, detail, imagery, and emotion. I have pages and pages of notes, on paper and in my phone, scribbled with lyrics about certain places, relationships, obstacles... and a lot of them of unfinished. So, I wanted to share a couple of lyrics that I found scribbled down in my notes, take them as songs, poetry, or even a journal entry... I take them as a time machine filled with nostalgia, good and, sometimes, not as pleasant, but worth the growth.
Picnic Dysmorphia
A picnic in your dream
What would it look like
Would there be a me?
Or would you pick she?
Flowers growing from my bed
Into your sleepy head
1, 2, 3 wake up and see
What would it be?
If the picnic in your dream
Could be a glimpse of reality
A quilted blanket
Sown with what ifs and circumstance
Daises to blow, wishes unknown
Counting on a chance
Under a wilted tree
We swing into a distant dream...
Add that
Ran through the MET without care
Your brown curly hair flopping in the air
Grasp my hand, hold it tight
Giving me the life I knew I'd like
Add that to my favorite things
The slightest touch walking down Stone
You grasped my hand tight on the subway home
Stirring up dinner on a Sunday night
Think I finally got it right
Add that to my favorite things
Solitude Suits Me
Strained a muscle in my left quad
From climbing four flights
In the August heat, bags of groceries
"Hear the humming of her guitar"
Says the barber downstairs
The sound from my escape
Seeps through the humid air
As I sing,
"Solitude suits me"
Time will reveal that neither of us had to lose
Might've fallen apart
But you found her
And I broke through
To the girl I finally knew
Neither of us had to lose<3
Hope you enjoyed my little lyric/poem/journal session! These were written over the course of 2020, where I grew, changed, found joy, and dealt with pain. The best thing I ever did, though, was write down whatever I was feeling, in whatever format I wanted... to look back and see where I am now is hopeful. I really encourage you all to do the same.
Deep love,
Nina Lee
